Salmon and Salmon

Salmon and Salmon

Salmo Salar, or Atlantic Salmon, is the most wanted and most appreciated fish that lives in the North Atlantic and rivers flowing into the Ocean. Salmon roe is as popular as fillet. In the Nordic countries, fishers smoke these eggs and consume them on a buttered cookie. Fish is appreciated for its rich content of meat, Omega 3, and fatty acids.

Salmon live in all the rivers that flow into the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, in the rivers of North America and Europe, except the rivers that flow into the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea. Salmon is a common fish in Great Britain, France, the Iberian Peninsula, Germany, the Scandinavian Peninsula, Poland, and all the rivers of Russia, which flow into the White Sea and the Baltic Sea.

Salmon is a predatory fish. It lives in the cold waters of the Seas and Oceans. He climbs rivers to lay his eggs and fertilize them. Not all salmon die after spawning, as one might think. Some of them return exhausted to the waters of the Seas and the Oceans and resume their Life cycle. Strong specimens return during their lifetime, three or four times in rivers to perpetuate the species. This produces an essential natural selection for the survival of the species

During their journey up the rivers, salmon transform their physical appearance. They lay their eggs in the cold mountain waters, waters very rich in oxygen. Their effort to cross the natural banks of the rivers is enormous. This long journey of theirs, from the seas and oceans, to the upper reaches of the rivers, can take months, sometimes even a year, during which the fish do not eat. In July and August, they lay their eggs. Being very weak, salmon become easy prey for bears waiting for them in shallow waters. Bears thus build up huge reserves of fat, fat without which they would not be able to survive the harsh winters of the North.

Female salmon lay about 800-1,000 eggs that males fertilize. Their young will descend from the fresh and cold waters into the Sea, only in their second year of Life. They will live beyond the continental shelf, in waters up to a thousand meters deep. In three or four years, the reproductive instinct will manifest, and the young salmon will, in turn, set out for the sources of the river in which they were born, which will be the only journey of their lives for many of them. Their offspring will follow the same cycle of species migration, which began millions of years ago by their ancestors.

Salmon varieties

So far, six varieties are known. These are: King / Chinook, Sockeye / Red, Coho / Silver, Pink / Humpback, Chum / Silverbrite / Keta / Dog and Atlantic Salmon / Salmo Salar.

Most Chinook Salmon are one and a half meters long and weigh over 45 kilograms. Chinook is considered to be the giant of the species, a kind of king of salmon. Some specimens, however, reach five meters in length and over 100 kilograms in weight. Chinook is the most widespread variety of salmon in North America. It lives over a wide area in the Pacific Ocean, from California waters to Alaska. For economic reasons, Chinook was also introduced to the Great Lakes. It is highly appreciated by consumers for the color of its meat, but especially for the very high content of Omega 3.

The other varieties of salmon are much smaller than Chinook and have different juices, tastes, textures, and fillet densities. They also have different contents of unsaturated fats and Omega 3, and their economic value is different from variety to variety.

Farm salmon.

Some varieties of salmon are raised in the aquaculture system, and fish are fed that include protein and various types of flour. Due to the food they receive, farmed fish fillets have different tastes, textures, juices, densities, and fat and Omega 3 contents. For those living in the North of the Planet, salmon has a very high value for health, vitality, and economy. It is an essential resource and is treated as such. Salmon is preserved in many ways, and it is eaten with pleasure throughout the year.

Message

Due to the pollution of the seas and oceans, there are many chemicals in the flesh of all marine animals that affect their lives. It is time to have a Responsible Attitude towards all the other Creatures we live within our Planetary House. Salmon is also affected by pollution, as are all other species of fish, marine mammals, birds, and all other animals that live on islands and continents. All species of salmon are affected by intensive fishing, as are all species of ocean fish. If we do not change our Attitudes and Behavior and do not take appropriate and responsible action, this Species will not survive for long. Thousands and tens of thousands of Living Species, Animals, and Plants will not survive. Without Life, the Earth will turn into a wasteland. No lucid man wants us to get there.

Remember: By protecting the Mother Planet and all other Living Creatures, we are protecting ourselves!
